Storytelling

The Leverdógil de Freitas Library created the Storytelling project with the purpose of contributing to the training of readers, promoting and fostering their interest in reading. This work was initiated in 2001. Since that year, the institution has been stimulating, by means of courses and workshops, the qualification of the professionals engaged in the activities it promotes.

By promoting reading, we hope to provide bases to enhance the children’s experiences, for we are aware of its importance and the contributions it can bring to the personal development of individuals.

In addition to the real delight aroused by the stories, the Storytelling provides essential tools for building up the language, developing creativity and ideas, and building values.

By means of different methods, we tell stories by Andersen and the Grimm brothers; classical stories by Brazilian writers, such as Monteiro Lobato, Cecília Meireles and Clarisse Lispector; as well as poetic, folkloric and mythological texts.

By treating reading in an entertaining way, this project has been warmly accepted by the children, who realize that reading is a delightful and captivating activity.

We hope the Storytelling will become a moment for children to go beyond the real world and step into a fantastic realm. Opening the door to a child’s inner world may nurture and encourage their hopes and their dreams of a better world.

The Storytelling project has been implemented in different institutions, community schools and daycare centers, and has been coordinated by teacher Ediane Gheno.
